Q |
Why
should aggregates be added to cement? How do they affect the strength of
concrete?
|
|
|
|
A |
Aggregates
are classed as inert materials as they do not enter into complex chemical
reactions with water. Aggregates are usually classified as fine and coarse
aggregate. Their
characteristics like size, shape, surface texture, grading (particle size
distribution) and mineralogy affect concrete strength in varying degrees. Concrete
mixtures containing larger aggregate particles require less mixing water
than those containing smaller aggregate. However, larger aggregates tend
to form weaker transition zones containing more micro cracks.
A
change in the aggregate grading without any change in the maximum size of
coarse aggregate, and with water/cement ratio held constant, can influence
the concrete strength when this change causes a corresponding change in
consistency and bleeding characteristics of the concrete mixture. A
concrete mixture containing a rough-textured or crushed aggregate would
show somewhat higher strength at early ages than a corresponding concrete
containing smooth or naturally weathered aggregate of similar mineralogy.
A
stronger physical bond between the aggregate and the hydrated cement paste
is assumed to be responsible for this. Differences in the mineralogical
composition of aggregates are also known to affect concrete strength. Top

What
is Arbitration in Construction?
|
|
|
|
A |
Arbitration is one well reputed branch of Civil Engineering Consultancy. It is
more a techno-legal-management consultancy.
Arbitration
is the voluntary submission of a dispute to a disinterested expert neutral
individual for final and legally binding determination. Arbitration, as opposed
to the common court litigation, is not a public forum; therefore, the parties'
privacy is preserved. Only when the award is contested in a court of law, that
it then becomes public; however, this only happens in very rare occasions. The
Award cannot be reviewed by a court, and there is no appeal. Arbitration is a
substitute for a trial and the review of court's decision by the appellate
courts.

1)approved plan of the building along with the number of floors.
2)ensure that the floor that you are buying is approved.
3)check if the land on which the builder is building is his or he has undertaken an agreement with a landlord, if so, check the title of the land ownership with the help of an advocate.

Q |
What are the basic/main Vaastu principles that need to be adhered to in a home?
|
|
|
|
A |
According to Vasthu Shastra there are three forces in action
to create harmony. Wind, water and fire or, vaayu, jal and agni. If these forces are kept in their appropriate places, then
there will be no disturbance. But if water is put in place of fire and
wind in place of water or in any other combination, the forces will start
acting accordingly and create disharmony. Top

Q |
What is Vaastu Shastra ?
|
|
|
|
A |
Vaasthu Shastra is an ancient science-cum-philosophy,
based on astrology and Hindu divinities, developed by the sages of yore to
ensure good fortune for the home builder and dweller. It aims at providing
guidelines for proper construction. Its a study of planetary influences on
buildings and the people who live in them. Top

Q |
I am buying plot, it is having a reverse slope from north to south. In fact there is a deep valley and the north road is at very highly elevated level. Since this is having a very good view towards south, kindly advice as to how I should construct the house keeping in all the positive features of the valley and the road and also the view ?
|
|
|
|
A |
The plot you mentioned is a highly negative one. The fundamental factor of the levels explained by me can never be achieved in such plot. Since the slope looks to be very steep, it is almost impossible to correct the plot to make it vastu complaint. The difference in levels look to be around 40 feet. As per vastu this plot may create major financial set backs and hamper the growth of the owner. When we consider all the other factors like architecture and engineering, looks and views cannot substitute to create a good vastu plot. How ever as we are not able to consider any of the vastu features to a satisfactory level, the advice is to reject the plot and should not be used for any house. Top

|
Q |
I would like to know if there are any principles related to pillars used in a house. I am constructing a house for which I would like to have your opinion ?
|
|
|
|
A |
There are specific principles to be followed for constructing a house with pillars. The total number of pillars must be even numbered without ending with zero. That means 8,12,14,16 etc. are allowed where as 10,20,30 are not allowed. No pillar should be allowed to be hanging. That means every pillar must have an opposite pillar either in vertical or horizontal directions. The pillars, which are located in the northeast zone, must not be round. If at all they have to be taken round for elevation purposes, they must be having square or rectangular foundation and square or rectangular ending at the roof level.
Incidentally, vastu also specifies about the number of beams and types of beams that should been used. They must be even numbered as in the case of pillars. Top

Q |
I am having a factory, which is having a big hillock in the southwest side. As my operations are increasing I would like to expand my factory in any of the directions suggested by you. Kindly advice ?
|
|
|
|
A |
As a general rule expansion of existing business establishments will create problems. As such there are specific considerations to be taken case of while expanding towards south or west.
In your case since there is a hillock in the southwest corner, expanding towards south will create problems. The entire southern portion will become a reversed slope area, which is considered as highly negative.
Expanding towards west will also create problems because the southwest corner will become lower than the southeast area, which is right now having a hillock. Reversing these heights will pose a greater problem and financial expenditure. There are also heavy structures, which must be compensating if the western area is expanded. The newly defined southwest area must not only become high but also very heavy as far as the usage is concerned.
So expansion towards north or east in your case is more desirable and will be as per the vastu principles. Care must be taken to correct the levels as compared to the existing plot. The compound walls and other areas of the new plot must be considered for the location of bore wells and water sumps. They must be relocated in the proper northwest zone of the entire plot. Similarly, the transformers or generators also must be relocated in the newly created southeast zone.

Q |
I am having a house, which is having diagonal directions. There is road on both sides of the plot. There is a flowing nalah adjacent to the plot. As the directions are very confusing I would like to clarify details regarding the layout of the rooms. Please clarify my doubts ?
|
|
|
|
A |
I have examined you plot and details of house. As this is a diagonal plot, care must be taken to follow specific vastu rules. There is no choice of taking any liberties with the construction aspect of the house. The road, which is a busy one should be treated as the one containing north, northeast and east directions. Hence the nalah should be treated as forming a part of northwest zone. Though this is negative, it may be positive in some portions of the year.
A. The main entry must be taken from the main road, as this is the powerful zone in the entire plot. The main entry can be left or right side of the front wall. For excellence results it can also taken in the exact centre of the front side. The modern layout of the rooms is in such a way that the cen6tral entry will not be a proper internal arrangement. Hence it is better to take on the right side as this is nearer to both roads.
B. The plot can have series of rooms towards southwest side, which is forming the centre of the backside wall. Care must be taken to have the doors exactly opposite the main door.
C. There can be a side door towards the small roadside. This can be always used as a secondary door only. It is better not to take any doors towards the nalah side. For the moment that side can he restricted to minimum as this can affect health wise also.
D. Avoid taking the first room and last room for kitchen. The first room can be a formal drawing room or living room. The last room can be taken as the master bedroom. Each room must be maintained as a perfect square or rectangle.
E. The attached toilet for the rooms can be taken in the northwest or southeast or south side of the room. Even these toilets should be part of the rectangular rooms only. There should not be any extensions to the rooms for any purposes.
F. The staircase can be taken in the entire backside of the house that is the southwest side. Any construction must not touch the compound walls of the plot in any way.
