The main function of a false ceiling is to provide thermal insulation, protection to the main structural frame of the roof, and also enhance aesthetic appearance.  Ceiling materials are selected on the basis of thickness, specific gravity, thermal conductivity and resistance to moisture, vermin, fire and ultraviolet rays. Materials, particularly in foamed form, provide better thermal insulation.
