Gates in various designs and colours are made from timber, steel, FRP and aluminum, with or without grill opening in the gate shutter.  Gates and gate-shutters could be made of strong metallic alloys, and the steel and aluminum used in them should be painted with water and chemical resistant paints.  Timber and FRP used in the gates or shutters may have only limited durability. Steel bars, flats or rounds, strips and galvanized wires are designed on customers requirement, both for gates shutters and fencing.

A grill in general is a grating through which air passes for ventilation.  Decorative grills are used in window openings for protection and circulation of air.  Grills are usually made of steel flats & wires and aluminum.  However, brass and copper, and other alloys are also used for making grills in prestigious buildings.  Galvanized steel or anodized aluminum, or water and corrosion resistant coatings provide the grills more durability and reduce maintenance costs.

Rolling shutters and grills are usually locally fabricated.  They are of different  types suitable for garages, shops, go-downs etc.  Shutters are timber paneled and glazed or may be of wooden flush type with hollow/solid core.  The most common shutters and grills are of metal rolling types.  Rolling shutters-cum-grills are of 3 types : 

a) Self-coiling

b) Gear operated

c) Electrically operated.

Locks and latches are provided in doors for safety and security.  Various types of locks could be either fixed on doors, or fitted in door shutters.  Mortise locks for sliding doors, with lever mechanism are also marketed.

Venetian blinds are of vertical and horizontal types.  These are available in various materials like wood, aluminum, cloth and plastics.

All types of door, window, shutter and gate require a number of fittings and accessories, fasteners, fixtures, locks and latches.  Besides, special fittings are also there to make a door, shutter or gate open automatically with mechanical, electrical or electronic devices. 

Various materials used for making doors, windows and shutters described in other sections/ sub-sections could have fittings for automatic opening and closing.

Automatically operated doors and gates are essential in large commercial establishments, conference rooms, cinema halls, airports, bus terminus, railway stations, banks, schools, hospitals etc and particularly in fire escape routes in buildings.  Electrically operated automatic gate controls and other devices are available commercially.

Latches, gate hooks, stoppers, hinges, locks, handles etc made of steel, aluminum, brass copper metals and alloys are variously used as fittings for doors, windows and almirahs.
